ToyotaCare is the no-cost maintenance plan included with a new Toyota. It covers factory-scheduled maintenance for 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever comes first, and adds 24-hour roadside assistance for 2 years with unlimited mileage.
Those two terms are different on purpose, and knowing which one you are inside matters. Here is what the plan covers, what it does not, and how to use it at Moss Bros. Toyota in Moreno Valley.
The Two Terms, and Why They Differ
Most articles blur these together. They should not be.
Factory-scheduled maintenance runs 2 years or 25,000 miles, whichever arrives first. If you drive a lot, the mileage cap will end your coverage before the calendar does. Twenty-five thousand miles goes quickly on a Moreno Valley commute down the 60 or the 215.
Roadside assistance runs 2 years with unlimited mileage. No mileage cap at all. So a high-mileage driver can exhaust the maintenance side well before the roadside side ends.
Knowing which term you are inside tells you what you can still use, and it is the single most practical thing to understand about the plan.
What Factory-Scheduled Maintenance Covers
ToyotaCare covers the normal factory-scheduled services listed in your Owner's Manual and warranty booklet, performed at a Toyota dealership.
For most drivers that means the routine work that keeps a new vehicle healthy through its first years:
- Oil and filter changes at the recommended intervals
- Tire rotations
- Multi-point inspections at each scheduled service
- Fluid level checks and adjustments
- Other services your specific model's maintenance schedule calls for
Because the exact service list varies by model and model year, the authority is your own maintenance schedule. Our advisors can confirm exactly which services are due and which are covered before you book, so nothing is a surprise when you arrive.
You can review the scheduled maintenance intervals for your vehicle, or go straight to the oil change and balance and rotation pages for details on the two services you will use most.
What Roadside Assistance Covers
The roadside side of ToyotaCare exists for the days that do not go to plan. For 2 years with no mileage limit, it generally includes:
- Battery jump start
- Flat tire assistance
- Lockout protection if your keys end up somewhere you cannot reach
- Fuel delivery if you run out
- Towing when the vehicle cannot be driven
In a region where a lot of driving happens on long stretches of freeway and out toward the desert, that unlimited-mileage term is more useful than it looks. Save the assistance number in your phone now rather than looking for it on the shoulder of the 60.
What ToyotaCare Does Not Cover
Being clear about this is more useful than overselling the plan.
ToyotaCare covers scheduled maintenance, not wear items and not repairs. That means:
- Brake pads and rotors are wear items, replaced as needed at your cost
- Tires are not covered, though rotations are
- Wiper blades, filters beyond the scheduled service, and similar consumables fall outside the plan
- Repairs are a warranty question rather than a maintenance one, and your new vehicle warranty is separate from ToyotaCare
So think of ToyotaCare as covering the predictable calendar of upkeep, while your warranty covers defects and your own budget covers wear. Three different things, and people conflate them constantly.
How to Use It at Moss Bros. Toyota
Using the plan is straightforward: book your service, bring the vehicle in, and our technicians perform the covered work.
You can schedule service online in a couple of minutes, or use our Express Service Center for routine maintenance when you would rather not leave the car all day.
One thing worth knowing about our hours: our service department is open seven days a week, Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Saturday from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Sunday service is genuinely uncommon, and the 7:00 AM opening every day means you can drop the vehicle before work rather than building your week around an appointment.
Bring your mileage and a note of anything that has felt, sounded, or smelled different since your last visit. That gives an advisor something concrete to work from.
After ToyotaCare Ends
When your 2 years or 25,000 miles are up, the maintenance does not stop mattering. Staying on the factory schedule protects your warranty coverage and supports resale value.
A few things worth knowing for that stage:
Our Moss Rewards program lets you earn on service visits and apply what you accumulate toward future work, which takes some of the sting out of maintenance once the complimentary period ends.
Current service and parts specials rotate, so it is worth checking before you book rather than after.
And if a needed repair lands at an awkward time, ask about service financing options.
For the work that follows the ToyotaCare period, our brake service and tire pages cover the two items most likely to come due first.
Two Things to Check Yourself Between Visits
Neither takes a minute, and both matter more in the Inland Empire than most places.
Measure tread with a quarter rather than a penny. Insert a quarter with Washington's head pointing down. If you can see the top of his head, you are at or below 4/32 of an inch and tires are coming due. The penny test flags 2/32, which is the legal minimum in most states rather than the safe threshold.
Check tire age with the DOT code. The last four digits on the sidewall give the week and year of manufacture, so "2321" means the 23rd week of 2021. Inland Empire sun hardens rubber from the outside while the tread still looks respectable, so a low-mileage vehicle can be running tires past their useful life. General guidance is to avoid tires more than six years old regardless of tread.
